I am an environmental soil scientist working at the intersection of soil, water, and climate, exploring how the water and carbon cycles, soil health, and vegetation dynamics respond to climate change. My research spans agrohydrology, drought monitoring, Earth observation, remote sensing, and machine learning, focusing on enhancing sustainable agriculture through actionable science. With a Ph.D. in soil science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a master’s in soil physics from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, I’ve spent the past decade applying advanced modeling, Earth observation, and machine learning to real-world agricultural and ecological challenges. As an ORISE-USDA Postdoctoral Scientist at the USDA-Hydrology and Remote Sensing Lab in Beltsville, Maryland, I worked on large-scale evapotranspiration modeling and regenerative agriculture applications across the U.S. As a faculty assistant at the University of Maryland, I leveraged remote sensing (e.g., HLS, Planet) data for modeling cover crop biomass using machine learning, which improved the Cover Crop Nitrogen Calculator (CCNCALC) tool for precision N and water management. I leverage multi-sensor satellite data (Sentinel-1/2, Landsat, HLS, Planet, VIIRS, MODIS, ECOSTRESS, SMAP, GRACE, etc.), reanalysis datasets (ERA5), and ground observations (AmeriFlux, FLUXNET, SCAN, USCRN), combined with tools like DSSAT, HYDRUS, ALEXI/disALEXI, and AI/ML algorithms, to model crop productivity, soil moisture, ecosystem services, and climate extremes. My work also integrates causal inference models (e.g., convergent cross-mapping and Granger/Sugihara causality) to untangle complex feedbacks between extreme climate events, like droughts and wildfires, and land surface processes. Currently, at Mississippi State University, I am helping students and faculty use high-performance computing (HPC) for their research projects and grants. I am passionate about using science to inform policy and build resilient, data-driven agricultural systems. With over nine years of research experience, I always want to collaborate on projects bridging the gap between research, technology, and decision-making in precision sustainable agriculture.
