Mentoring in AI-Driven Threat Detection and Secure Research Compu
Mentoring researchers interested in AI-based threat detection, including malware, deepfake, and foodborne pathogen detection using LLMs, deep learning, and secure cyberinfrastructure.
asteriskmentor preferred attributes:
  • Interest in AI-based detection and secure computing
  • Familiarity with Python, ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Graduate student, postdoc, or junior faculty
  • Commitment to publish or present during or after the mentorship

Details

This engagement offers mentorship to graduate students, postdocs, or early-career researchers working on AI-based threat detection systems. As PI of a USDA-funded project on Salmonella detection using AI and lead researcher in projects on Android malware detection, deepfake media forensics, and radicalization in Arabic social media, I aim to help mentees bridge AI, NLP, and cybersecurity. Topics include model development (CNNs, transformers), adversarial training, integration with NSF ACCESS resources, and responsible AI deployment. I will guide mentees through building secure, reproducible workflows, publishing their findings, and aligning with national cyberinfrastructure practices. This opportunity is ideal for mentees pursuing research at the intersection of AI safety, trust, and national computing systems.
